Little Toot Dolphin Adventure at Clearwater Beach

About this experience

Adults and children of all ages love the Little Toot because of our “tug boat” shape and power, we create a huge wake that Dolphins love to jump and play in.
The Little Toot offers closer dolphin sightings because the boat is lower to the waters edge. We provide a narrated sightseeing tour of Clearwater Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico.

Dolphin Tour

Planning perspective

How I’d plan this experience

I’d choose Little Toot for a compact, family-friendly way to get out on Clearwater’s water without giving over a whole beach day to a boat trip. The appeal is not simply a harbour cruise: the low tugboat-style vessel is designed to create a wake where wild dolphins may play, alongside narration covering Clearwater Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. I think it suits anyone who values an active, social sightseeing ride and understands that wildlife remains the main variable rather than a scheduled performance.

Who I’d recommend it for

This is a particularly strong fit for families with children, mixed-age groups and couples who want a straightforward shared outing with a clear focal point. At 75 minutes, it is long enough to feel like a proper excursion but short enough that younger children and reluctant boaters are less likely to see it as a major commitment.

I’d also put it high on the list for visitors who want to see dolphins in open water rather than build a day around a wildlife attraction on land. The boat’s wake is central to the experience, so go for the prospect of watching natural dolphin behaviour around the vessel, not for a promise of a particular number of sightings or jumps.

Choose it for the boat experience as much as the dolphins

My advice is to treat the narrated ride, harbour-and-Gulf scenery, and the unusual tugboat format as the dependable ingredients; dolphins are the hoped-for highlight. That framing makes this a better choice for people happy to enjoy being on the water either way. Feedback especially highlights dolphins playing in the wake and clear, friendly onboard commentary, which suggests the trip works best when you are interested in both wildlife watching and local sightseeing.

If you are deciding between this and a larger sightseeing vessel, I’d favour Little Toot when a lower-to-the-water perspective and the character of a smaller-feeling boat matter more than maximum onboard space. It is still a shared tour, however, with capacity for up to 50 travellers, so it will not have the privacy or flexibility of a private charter.

Plan your arrival around parking, not just departure time

The practical trade-off here is that the cruise itself is short, while the lead-in can require patience. I’d keep the 45 minutes before departure genuinely free for parking, ticketing and boarding, rather than arriving at the marina expecting a quick dash to the boat. Beach traffic and parking availability can add pressure, and the boat cannot be held for late arrivals.

Check-in is at the Little Toot Booth at Slip #12, with boarding beginning 10 minutes before departure. I think this is a good option for a day when you can keep the period before sailing uncluttered; it is less well suited to squeezing between tightly timed beach reservations or meals.

Make comfort choices once aboard

I’d use the seating flexibility to match the weather and your group: choose shade if you are managing heat or small children, and sun if open-air viewing matters more to you. The ability to get up and move around is useful for changing your view, though I would not assume a particular spot stays available throughout a shared sailing.

For a simple, self-contained outing, remember that drinks are available to buy but are cash only, while parking and gratuities sit outside the tour inclusions. Public transport nearby may help some visitors avoid the parking issue, but I’d regard that as an option to investigate for your own starting point rather than a reason to cut arrival time close.
